My President, wow…this is a historic event that everyone has been looking forward too. “Oooo I can’t wait for the 20th to come”, have you ever heard someone say that? Yes I have seen a lot of that lately. People are either anticipating what his speech would be like, or what The First Lady will be wearing for the Inauguration. This is one historic event that I will never forget as I have lived to see that day come. Yes, Martin Luther King’s dream continues.
My mother always told me that I could be whatever I wanted to be, however, not many of us had that same opportunity. There were many who lacked confidence in themselves and thought that they could not do anything with their life. Seeing Barack Obama entering the White House and being our President, has made a lot of them rethink their position on life. Americans are buzzing, they are feeling patriotic, a sense of togetherness. Did you see the “We are One” event, where just before Beyonce sang America the Beautiful, this elderly man with his banjo and Bruce Springsteen sang “This land is my land?” It is our land. We are one!!!!
At 12:00 p.m. today he will be sworn in. He will take the oath to be the President of the United States of America! That is an occasion we cannot miss…I am so happy Governor Charlie Christ asked the schools statewide to allow the children to watch that event when the time comes. I am so proud that I could see this day, happy though I am not in the cold in D.C. That is too much, but I am still there. I am so excited my hubby is excited, that today is finally here. YES WE DID IT!!!!!!!
Everyone feels like he [Obama] is supposed to start making our fears subside from day one and what some of us realize is that it takes all of us to make it work. That is why he involved all of us in the election. This was our election, it is our Inauguration and this is our Government. Everyone around the world is watching us take that step towards a different world. There will still be racism, but now I hope people would look at it as ignorance, and look ahead. Today is a new day when we come together as One to see Our President take that step. To see him place his hands on the Lincoln Bible. To hear him say those words. My hubby and I have been watching from day 1 and we are so happy. He will be our 44th President, and First Black President…History.
My children will grow up knowing about this because my hubby will never stop talking about it for one…and it will be in the History books. Looking at the crowds streaming into the mall. Wow. Today is the day……1/20/09 (January 20th, 2009). We made it!!!! Ooooo did you see the beast (the limo)? Happy Inauguration Day to all!
