Retweet: Does it really work?

February
I was curious to find out does retweeting really help gain more exposure and even more followers on Twitter, and I have to say gaining over 120 followers in one day did prove that it works. Especially on this tradition I am going to call FollowFriday. Where it would seem everyone preps up for this major referral program. The more you retweeted the more referrals you received and the more exposure you would get. I started of Thursday with only 30 people, I gained 5 more then on Friday or the dawn of Friday I started to get more, by midnight I was at 70 and finally today I have 150 followers +/-. I am not at 1000 or 2000 but I just wanted to state a point. I know it annoyed a few people with the constant retweet plus I found it a bit too much when I constantly had to rush over to my Facebook page to delete those Retweets that would pop up. To all of those friends I annoyed I’m sorry. Though you may see a few now and then when I see some great link
but not as often as the last day.
If I would have continued maybe I would have reached the 1000 that Jesse Newhart said would have happened. Now if you really want great information and little tip sites he has quite a few he tweets whenever he is on (SO FOLLOW). On the part of making friends, I have to say that works too
@cheth, @phaoloo, @thotsunlimited, @dollar5, @TallyCast, @JesseNewhart, @Jerlyn @mayhemstudios and a few others who you could find constantly retweeting excellent sites. Last night I even got a site with some really cool light brushes for Photoshop. I have grown to appreciate the people who retweet because if it was not for retweeting you would never know what good sites a friend of a friend may have found. So I respect Retweeters.
Not everyone likes retweeting since they use twitter to say what they are doing. As we all know however to every social network there is another side and many other reasons why people use it. There are a lot of motivational tweeters and a lot companies such as Google and CNNuses twitter also. So people see it as a way to market their Merchandise.
Read this How I broke the Twitter 2000 Follow barrier in one month. In here she stated it clearly that “Retweets (RT) are the lifeblood of twitter”. I totally and absolutely stand with her in saying so. Do read the rest of the article, she has made some pretty valid points.
Retweeting plays a major role in Twitter, and it is considered a way of spreading information from follower to follower. I have gotten over 120 followers in one day, a small size but it means a lot, others have gotten way more followers on FollowFriday. The point is though that it helps with exposure and networking, and I have made a few friends along the way. So in my thoughts Retweeting really works, so try doing it once in a while. Share the info.

I know many people who annoyed many of their Facebook friends by integrating their twitter updates into Facebook. I think this is because FB users aren’t used to such frequent status updates. Based upon this I never integrated my account. Let me know how it goes for you.
Yeah I will think of another solution to that though it is annoying having to update individually.
I wish there was a way you could mark a tweet to be posted to my FB account and have others not be posted. I got too much hate mail from my FB friends, so I removed the link between Fb and twitter.
yeah this FB friend commented on how often I updated. So I started keeping my FB page open whenever I retweeted.
Great post.
I may consider not updating my facebook status with twitter however, I think they should get used to it.
120 people haha awesome. I am getting slightly overwhelmed here sometimes with twitter. I lost an invitation to an event with so many retweets (since I checked on the web). When I got back to TweetDeck, the invitation appeared, 2 hours too late (
) – he should have just texted.
However, RT are great when sharing resources. Maybe Twitter should consider a RT tab for next version update.
That is a great idea the RT tab that will give a choice as to whether we want to send it out and to maybe limit RT’s whenever we want. The only option for stopping RT is to unfollow which is not a very good option. I now have a folder called twitter bookmarks
.
Thanks for posting it here. I believe it is the best way to gain friendship and followers on Twitter. But, watch your RT, just retweet which is informative, useful to your followers or you will be a spammer and all followers will probably soon say good bye to you.
I do tend to pick out the informative posts, like some of yours, the tutorials are the best.
A really good article. I had no idea what follow friday is until I read this, and I couldn’t even find anything on Google.
Is it a one time thing or do you RT many times that day?
Ok let’s say for example I found a link about some great Photoshop tutorials and I wanted other people to know about it, I would tweet it out. Your friend however is not on my list and is very interested in learning more about Photoshop you in turn retweet it and they can see it. So retweeting is taking info from one friend and letting another friend see it. It could be done many times a day, it could be annoying too. As Phaoloo said it is best to retweet informative tweets that are useful or else you would be seen as a spammer.
A nice post. Twitter is so huge and some nice information can be buried if it is not moved up. Retweet does exactly that!! It can be compared to digging or giving a thumbs up to your favorite news items.
So, in summary, RT useful items and you help the information flow!!

Well said Kat… you will always be Kat to me
rt are a great way to spread messages quickly.

Retweeting is for the birds

I use an a facebook app called “Selective Twitter updates” http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=115463795461adn
It is fab! because u dont really wanna send every tweet and Rt to facebook, so only tweets with a hashtag #fb get posted to facebook. Its been created by twitter.com/andyy
About the above post, i got rt’ed today after a long long time and hell yeah it feels good!
The main purpose of retweeting is as you say Vandy, to share information with your followers. Most people on any social network fall into many sets but just because you can see a post doesn’t mean that your network can. The caveat is indeed to share what you feel will have value to your followers, but that is true of anything you post.
As to updating Facebook, most of the better Twitter clients like, Seesmic and Tweetdeck allow you to select where your post goes. I probably post 20% of my twitter posts on Facebook using this method. Posting everything I tweet to FB seemed to create a culture clash.
Oh yeah after getting my head chewed off for posting to my Facebook too much I had to stop it. Not everyone is into getting loaded with information. Seesmic is awesome!!
