Is sensitivity and compassion a thing of the past?
Recently, I’ve been noticing that on social media networks sensitivity and compassion is little to non-existent. People’s lack of emotion has me thinking that we have become cold- hearted to the fact that people still have feelings. It’s like human emotions no longer exists.
Recently in my home country a heartbreaking accident took the lives of two of the country’s football players. One of the news reporting agencies posted a picture of the vehicle with the victim’s body still in it. What if a member of his family was not aware of the news and saw this image? Are we so dense that we hold sensationalism higher than feelings?
Last night a member of the Kriss Kross group died. The comments I read under a blog post were disheartened, as people continuously posted vulgar and hurtful things under the story. I know people die every day and death is inevitable, it just seems that the sympathetic emotions are disappearing.
I guess people are using the internet to show their true colors, a medium of expression they say? People hide behind their computer and they say whatever they want regardless or whether it hurts someone or not. I guess we found a way to hide behind something then cast our stones.
What happened to the days when if you had nothing nice to say say nothing at all?
