Retweet: Does it really work?

I was curious to find out does retweeting really help gain more exposure and even more followers on Twitter, and I have to say gaining over 120 followers in one day did prove that it works. Especially on this tradition I am going to call FollowFriday. Where it would seem everyone preps up for this major referral program. The more you retweeted the more referrals you received and the more exposure you would get. I started of Thursday with only 30 people, I gained 5 more then on Friday or the dawn of Friday I started to get more, by midnight I was at 70 and finally today I have 150 followers +/-. I am not at 1000 or 2000 but I just wanted to state a point. I know it annoyed a few people with the constant retweet plus I found it a bit too much when I constantly had to rush over to my Facebook page to delete those Retweets that would pop up. To all of those friends I annoyed I’m sorry. Though you may see a few now and then when I see some great link ;) but not as often as the last day.

If I would have continued maybe I would have reached the 1000 that Jesse Newhart said would have happened. Now if you really want great information and little tip sites he has quite a few he tweets whenever he is on (SO FOLLOW). On the part of making friends, I have to say that works too ;) @cheth, @phaoloo, @thotsunlimited, @dollar5@TallyCast, @JesseNewhart, @Jerlyn @mayhemstudios and a few others who you could find constantly retweeting excellent sites. Last night I even got a site with some really cool light brushes for Photoshop. I have grown to appreciate the people who retweet because if it was not for retweeting you would never know what good sites a friend of a friend may have found. So I respect Retweeters.

Not everyone likes retweeting since they use twitter to say what they are doing. As we all know however to every social network there is another side and many other reasons why people use it. There are a lot of motivational tweeters and a  lot companies such as Google and CNNuses twitter also. So people see it as a way to market their Merchandise.

Read this How I broke the Twitter 2000 Follow barrier in one month. In here she stated it clearly that “Retweets (RT) are the lifeblood of twitter”. I totally and absolutely stand with her in saying so. Do read the rest of the article, she has made some pretty valid points.

Retweeting plays a major role in Twitter, and it is considered a way of spreading information from follower to follower. I have gotten over 120 followers in one day, a small size but it means a lot, others have gotten way more followers on FollowFriday. The point is though that it helps with exposure and networking, and I have made a few friends along the way. So in my thoughts Retweeting really works, so try doing it once in a while. Share the info.

In a world called Twitterdom

twitter-bird-3 I joined this little online world called Twitterdom, where people share their thoughts from the color of their socks to what they are eating for the world to see. Never would I have ever imagined that I would get caught up in doing almost the same thing. Just the thought of typing what is on your mind with just 140 characters is thrilling. You could write basically anything.

Twitterdom though is not only fun for me, I have a few followers about 7 handfuls to be exact and most of them share a common interest with me and that is technology. I know the other side of technology in terms of fixing computers and being a service field technician. On the part of web design and PHP and CSS and all of those funny languages I am a beginner. So I am looking at all of the links that are being given in terms of creating a decent website, which I suck at tremendously, and I try to follow those tips to make my blogging experience better.

There is this one tweeter  I follow and gosh, he has so many links that are both informative and right to the point. His name is Jesse Newhart, not only does he use twitter to tweet random things, he utilizes it in a way to help novices like me learn the other side of the web. One example of a site he tweeted the other day is : Blog Post Ideas That Always Generate Buzz. It really gave a concise view of what not to do and what to do. Plus on his website there is also a fountain of information, since I keep up with him, he posted this entry today: How To Turn Twitter Followers Into Friends. Great post, after playing with twitter and seeing how other people socialize I realized that you do have to give back. That is why I follow him. Do visit his website some time: Jesse Newhart, the first link above leads to his twitter.

Then there is Tallycast, he started following me and out of curiosity I followed him. He has a great site and he also tweets some very informative articles on his website. If you are in Tallahassee and you need know what is going on he has it all on his site. There are also podcasts and a wide range of other articles. How did I know that? Through twitter you access the person’s website, and there are so many informative sites out there that you could use. To visit his twitter Tallycast.

My former classmate Jerlyn also has twitter, she is a web designer and are excellent illustrator. She introduced me to some great tutorial sites and that is what I think got me hooked on reading all of those articles on Photoshop and CSS. Her twitter Jerlyn. She also tweets some awesome links too. Do visit her site.

So in my little but big world of Twitterdom, I am enjoying every bit of it. I am enjoying the vast fountain of knowledge, which is literally in every tweet. Plus I am making friends as I go along, tech friends that is :p . Its not all that bad, just fun and educational for me. Though there are some people who would always try to spoil that, by trying to make it the fast way. I hope it will grow into something even bigger.  So far I have to say my experience is great, and I hope many others will feel the same way too.

My Addictions

I do not drink, I do not smoke, I do not take any drugs except those prescribed by my doctor. About October of ‘06 I became addicted to a game called second life. Played it almost 24/7 on my day off and then whenever I got home from work. After my friend died in RL (real life) I mellowed on the playing. Then my addiction subsided some so I was sober and normal. Nothing to worry about haha, I have to admit after SL I felt rather light and relaxed.

Then I saw the Treo haha, yes a Treo and I wanted my hands on it, man it was a neat phone. That’s when my fascination with gadgets began to rage. Once I dropped that itty bitty phone, it  was a LG flip phone, I never went back. I got a high from being able to do almost everything on my phone, I went to work and could check my email without having to use the work computer and I was able to send my faxes and view my Adobe files. I got the unlimited text plan and the unlimited internet plan from my carrier and boy I was loving it. My phone went with me everywhere, it is and will always be within my reach.

Then Facebook came my way, I had an account for a few months but I never bothered with it. Then I decided to explore the world of social networking after I read an article on MSNBC. I read about twitter and all of those addictive sites out there. Now I admit I am hooked on Facebook and I am hooked on Twitter. I have both a facebook application and Twitter application on my phone. So whenever I leave the house I have them at my fingertips. I am joining a new social networking site whenever I can. Maybe I get a high…I don’t know.

I do not really care, at least I am not doing drugs or  any of those other bad stuff. So there I admitted it, I am addicted to technology and I am addicted to social networking sites.Just meeting new people who share the same interests as me is exciting. Now that I have rss and podcast on my phone it will now start another evil trend, but hey, until the doctor says it is not good for me I am  not going to stop.

The old times

Well hello guys, its such a long day and what I am doing right now I am surfing through Facebook looking at friends pictures  and just playing this ridiculous game called Mafia  Wars. Wait it is not all that bad, its  just addictive. Before I get over the FB-crack, I am going to ask a few people from the class of  2001 and 2002 from the St. Andrews High School to please submit some ole time pictures. Man I am just reminiscing on the days at that school. The BEST school Ever!!!!

It would be fun to share old memories like the times in Science class with Ms. Francois and Chemistry with Mr. Berkel Williams and Physics with Mr. Telemaque. Remember English with Mrs. Fontaine, oh and Mathematics with Mr. Charles. Those were the days right. Do you remember when we used to have to clean up the classes and every time after we would go down to the river for a  big one pot. Man I could taste those lentils and dumplings. Oooo and final assembly when we all had to get our T-shirts with our class and all of our names on the back. Those were the days.

I remember the mornings we had to squeeze into the auditorium for morning assembly. And singing the hymns from the little blue book. Yes those were the days. Oh and the Belle Mache, to Portsmouth, Bense, Castle Bruce. I had only one bad experience in my first year and I blame my brother for that incident, which could have been avoided. Hey those were still fun days.

For those of us who walked to school, though I rode the bus to school, it was fun walking home, in the afternoon. Deanna, Jeana, Ernester, Belinda, Jeanella, and I the little click haha. Our science click haha, my name was VEHP(pron. VEP). Man its 8 yrs since we left that school to venture of into the world. Oh my remember those guava trees down by the river, haha I used to go run down the little track behind form 1-1 and to get some to eat. You know what made them good? All of that raw cow poop.

Remember when we started to wear ties with out uniforms, haha there were a few days I used to forget mine. I decided to get two just in case, because that meant a detention. Then their was the choir, oh man, we were sooooo good. ♫ Lift every voice and sing ♪ Man we used to practice almost every afternoon. It was worth it though because we were the best!!! Oh and the debates, man they were good, we had some great debaters, gosh winning was so Glorious.

I can still remember my 2001 science Class Clair-Ann, Kursha, Alfred, Deanna, Jeana, Ernester, Belinda, Jeanella, Marie- T, Sharon, Terry, Nicholas…there are so many I do not remember. Then the 2002 science class, Gerard, Konata, Nakita, Magalee, Nica… We were science geeks. Ms. Francois was the best Bio Teacher EVER!!!! I remember the science fair like it was yesterday when we spent hours at the last minute trying to get the undulated kettle done. Yes we won the National Science Fair and went on to get second place in the Regional Science Fair. Ok enough of that.

I will be setting up a group within Facebook for St. Andrews High School Class of 2001 and 2002 hope you guys come forward to make this a wonderful experience as our High School years were.
